JFK's Assassination: Conspiracy or Not?

I do not believe that JFK's assassination was a conspiracy. I feel that if it was planned to be a conspiracy then an escape route for Oswald would have been made available. I also feel that other individuals would of had to be involved in this conspiracy because it is such a huge task to accomplish: assassinating the beloved president. Plus, it is part of human nature to have a guilty conscious. I feel like someone who was involved in the conspiracy might have changed there mind and noticed what an awful thing they were going to do to the nation. I just strongly feel as though the assassination of JFK was not a conspiracy because all of the pieces of the puzzle don't match up, and if it was someone would have been caught by now.

Cold War & the Butter Battle Book

The Cold War and the Butter Battle Book have many similarities and differences. One main similarity between the two is that the Zooks represent the Soviet Union whom wish to run a communist government, and the Yooks portrays the United States and the rest of the democratic nations. Like the United States and the Soviets the two nations disagreed on a certain way of doing things (way of running the government), like the Zooks and Yooks disagreed with the way they buttered their bread. Another comparison relates to the idea of an arms race (building up ones army with the strongest and best supplies and weapons). Both the Zooks and the Yooks did this in the story. They made crazy contraptions and 'weapons' all in order to prepare for combat. The wall that was created in the book could symbolize the 'iron curtain' or imaginary line dividing the communist and Democrats. One main difference is that in the book the results of the war is never declared; it just ends.

George F. Kennan

A long term policy is crucial to have between the United States and the Soviet Union. The Soviets are still going to try to spread communism, and although the United States may not be able to help those countries already dominated by the Soviets, they can prevent it from spreading elsewhere. The Soviets and the United States will never agree and have the same policies. The United States is evidently the stronger nation, and will eventually ware down the Soviets.

Was Truman Justified?...

I believe Truman was not justified to bomb Japanese cities just because they would not surrender. By bombing the two cities, thousands of innocent citizens were injured and even killed, even though they were not the ones leading the war. The Japanese military was who the U.S. should have targeted instead of thousands of Innocent bystanders. I feel as though the U.S. could have thought this out better and there was no need to kill and ruin the lives of so many human beings. Even an negotiation could have been tried before bombing took place. I just feel as though it was a poor choice on Truman's part.

This Diary Belongs to: Florence Galizio

May 1943
Nearly everyone I know has gone off to fight in the war. Frank, Dom, Joe, my beloved brothers, all left my four sisters and I early this morning. They promised us that they would be back soon, as they plastered on a smile to hid the fear inside. My sisters and I cried as they left us, afraid we would not see them again. I am unable to bake my famous fruit cake and serve it with coffee because the supply of food is limited and Americans supplies of sugar, tropical fruits, and coffee is unattainable. Toady I received my first ration book. Inside it revealed coupons I could use to purchase food and clothing, since many of these items are now scarce. I have to be sure to manage the coupons responsibly because if I don't I will not get another, until it is time for me to receive one again. I am scared. For my brothers, and even for me and my sisters who must change out way of life. To occupy our worried minds, my sisters and I enjoy going to the movies at least once a week. It serves as a means for use to forget our troubles, and to relax, even if it is just for an hour or two. I see posters all over town supporting the war and trying to gain patriotic moral from its citizens. I however can not say I agree. A garden has been set up which has vegetables planted in it. Many of the vegetables are sent to feed the soldiers. I plan on going down to the garden today with my sisters to plant some vegetables. All I can do is pray for my brothers and other soldiers and do what I can to help.

President-Elect Obama & FDR

President-Elect Obama should model his relief/assistance programs after FDR because FDR was "a good man" and served as a successful president. Like Roosevelt, Obama is an optimistic man whose main concern is to improve our nation for the better. In order for Obama to help get us out of this recession, he could mimic many of FDR's past plans, such as creating public work programs (since many people are now out of jobs due to the economy and recent law past about no longer having dog races). What Obama needs is to create a structured plan on how he plans on attacking these matters. He needs to know his goal, and work for it, unlike Roosevelt who often just went with the flow and did not have a structured plan on how to end the depression. I believe if Obama models FDR's relief/ assistance programs then it would help us get out of a recession, because after all history repeats itself, so let's learn from our past and change it now!!!
