Cold War & the Butter Battle Book

The Cold War and the Butter Battle Book have many similarities and differences. One main similarity between the two is that the Zooks represent the Soviet Union whom wish to run a communist government, and the Yooks portrays the United States and the rest of the democratic nations. Like the United States and the Soviets the two nations disagreed on a certain way of doing things (way of running the government), like the Zooks and Yooks disagreed with the way they buttered their bread. Another comparison relates to the idea of an arms race (building up ones army with the strongest and best supplies and weapons). Both the Zooks and the Yooks did this in the story. They made crazy contraptions and 'weapons' all in order to prepare for combat. The wall that was created in the book could symbolize the 'iron curtain' or imaginary line dividing the communist and Democrats. One main difference is that in the book the results of the war is never declared; it just ends.
